The Clubs Development,
For many years the team’s progress was badly hampered in not having it’s own facilities. Much gratitude is due to local farmers who provided playing fields in those days.
Having spent most of the previous twenty five years on land provided on Castlemartin estate by Dr.Tony O’Reilly, the Club finally successfully purchased and developed it’s own facilities which were officially opened on 26th April 2002.
The total cost of this venture was in the region of £850,000.
A grant of £160,000 was received from the National Lottery and the remainder was raised through an intensive and co-ordinated funding programme undertaken by the Club.
Fundraising sources include: Race Nights; Fashion Shows; Golf Classics; Christmas Hamper and generous sponsorship and individual contributions.
The provision of these new facilities has opened up new opportunities for the Club, it’s members, local schools and the Cross and Passion College. The new facilities are also good news for the Ladies section who can now avail of excellent dressing room and shower facilities for the fast growing girls’s football and camogie teams.
In looking to the future, good facilities will be essential to the work of the Club. In this context the Club is very conscious of our rapidly changing Irish Society. These changes will represent new challenges to our community and will require a new vision for the future.
As a sports recreational club, which promotes our national games and culture, the emphasis of the Club going forward will be on the youth of the Community.
Kilcullen GAA firmly believes that young people who participate in our games for a worthwhile period become very good sportsmen and sportswomen and from this they develop into responsible adults, earning the respect of others.
“Let There Be Light…” (November 2015)
Development reached its first milestone when the match standard floodlights on the main pitch, went fully operational, for training sessions on Wednesday October 21st.
The next milestone was the playing of the first game under the lights & that honour went to the Minor girls who defeated Geraldines by 2-6 to 2-1 in the championship on Monday November 2.
Nanci Murphy was again the shining light on the field, scoring 2-3 and showing great work-rate throughout. Bróna Dooley, Laura McMahon, Lisa Aspell and Sydney Sheridan all also excelled in a good all round team performance.
The drainage and civil works on the training pitch are completed & it will be back in use in the Spring.
It is a huge step forward for the club, with a total of €180,000, having been spent this year as part of our development programme.
The club welcome financial support or sponsorship as they aim to cover the costs of the development. If you can offer such support, contact Development Chairman Martin Murphy in confidence martinmurphy1@live.ie
